Both of our submitted packaging solutions have been awarded the title of Packaging of the Year 2024, and the startup Combo Ski even won the prestigious Gold Award from the Jury Chair!
The winning packaging designs were created not only to meet the high demands for product protection but also to reduce environmental impact and improve logistics efficiency.
Max for ECO Packaging Solution
The "Max for ECO" concept is a single-use overseas packaging solution for the new version of the Prusa 3D printer with integrated enclosure.
The goal was to develop an eco-friendly and fully recyclable package. Additionally, due to the distant shipping destination, the customer requested a significant reduction in weight to minimize transportation costs.
We successfully eliminated all recycling-challenging and heavy materials, focusing particularly on the often-underestimated properties of cardboard. Most of the packaging components are made of "paper," as a passerby might say 😊.
The base, cover, and internal fixations are made of corrugated cardboard, specially treated for overseas shipping. A conventional wooden pallet was replaced by a pressed pulp pallet with moisture protection. The PET strapping in this concept was replaced by kraft paper straps.
A key element of the package is the internal fixation parts made from a special expanded PE foam. This material is uncommon in the packaging industry, but we chose it for its optimal physical properties, such as excellent mechanical resistance to compression and vibrations, high product protection from scratches due to its structure, and a lower weight compared to typical foams. Furthermore, this material contains 30% recycled content and is fully recyclable.
The viewer's eye will also be drawn to the slanted shape of the top part of the outer packaging, which mirrors the shape of the packaged product while preventing unauthorized stacking of another pallet by careless shippers ☹.
Combo Ski Packaging Solution
The development of this packaging set focused on a unique solution for an unusual product: multifunctional skis/snowshoes/traction cleats all in one – "Combo Ski."
The playful design of the packaging provides the new ski owner with an experience right from the unboxing. The excited ski mountaineer gets to "touch the devil’s boards" even before unwrapping them. The design of the packaging also evokes a mountain view and the anticipation of new adventures that come with the product.
The unglued, foldable construction is made from fully recycled and recyclable material, with carry handles that also serve as the binding of the packaged product!
The packaging set consists of two internal universal black boxes for separate ski packing and an outer cover that locks the set together and creates the final design. Thanks to the separate packaging of each ski, the product can be sold and shipped individually if the owner happens to "misplace" one ski somewhere 😊.
